Overview & intended use

qludd brings your boat’s data together on your phone, tablet or computer. View supported readings over a local Wi-Fi connection and share fuel and battery or charger status with compatible onboard equipment. Available functions depend on your equipment and firmware. qludd does not steer your boat or control safety-critical systems.

Installation & safety

Use the boat’s original instruments and independent checks for navigation and fuel decisions. ql-01 must not be your sole source of information for safe operation. Missing, delayed or incorrect data can result from a disconnected source, network problem or loss of power.

Mount ql-01 in a dry, sheltered equipment space near the boat’s backbone. Protect it from direct spray, standing water and excessive heat. Secure the unit, leave room to disconnect the cables, and keep cables and metal objects clear of the antenna area. Follow the mounting instructions supplied with your unit.

  1. Check that your unit, power supply and cables match the specifications and connection instructions.
  2. Switch off the relevant sources, mount the unit and route the cables.
  3. Connect the compatible backbone cable and check the termination setting.
  4. Restore power and complete local setup.
  5. Compare readings with the original instruments. Disconnect safely if connecting ql-01 disrupts other equipment.

Keep the USB cover closed when the port is not in use. Keep water away from the open port and follow the connection instructions supplied with your unit.

Power & connections

Use a fused 12 V boat backbone within 9–16 V DC. Do not connect to a 24 V system or directly to an unprotected battery supply. Switch off the relevant sources before wiring. An installer familiar with the boat’s electrical system should check polarity, grounding, cable suitability and upstream protection.

Do not open the enclosure to change J4 unless Bitella has supplied an approved access and resealing procedure. Otherwise contact support to check the termination setting.

The backbone connection uses a Mini-type connector. Use a compatible, correctly keyed backbone cable. Align the connector before securing it; do not force it or alter its wiring. Provide strain relief and avoid sharp cable bends. With power disconnected, select the onboard 120 Ω termination at jumper J4: pins 1–2 = ON; pins 2–3 = OFF (default). Use ON only when ql-01 provides one of the two backbone end terminators. Keep OFF on a branch or when both end terminators are already fitted.

Power ql-01 through USB-C using a suitable 5 V USB supply or computer port that meets its power requirements. You can use a USB-A to USB-C or USB-C to USB-C cable. Install firmware updates through the local dashboard. USB and CAN share a common ground.

USB and backbone power may be connected at the same time if both sources and the installation’s grounding meet the requirements for your unit. Ask your installer if you are unsure. Disconnect both sources to turn ql-01 off completely.

Local Wi-Fi & pairing

Connect your phone, tablet or computer to ql-01’s Wi-Fi network, or to the same local network as ql-01. Its own Wi-Fi network is on by default and can be switched off in settings. Open the dashboard at the address supplied with your unit and follow the pairing instructions. You do not need internet access.

Keep your login details private and only allow trusted users to change settings. Do not expose ql-01 to the internet through router port forwarding.

Your dashboard

Check the detected equipment, units and freshness of readings. Missing data is not a zero reading. Compare readings with the boat’s original instruments and use independent checks for navigation and fuel decisions.

Fuel records are calculated; they do not measure the fuel physically present. Before confirming an action, verify the selected tank or record. Check the displayed result before repeating a request whose outcome is uncertain.

Compatibility

Available functions depend on connected equipment and firmware. Selected Victron equipment can supply data over Bluetooth; support varies by model.

Fuel and charger reporting is available only on compatible multifunction displays. Contact support with your equipment’s manufacturer, model and software version for compatibility information.

Firmware updates

  1. Obtain the qludd application firmware .bin supplied for your unit. Do not use a bootloader, partition-table or merged programming image. Keep a note of important settings and fuel records.
  2. Connect locally, open the dashboard and pair your browser. Open System and note Firmware and Build.
  3. Under Firmware update, select the .bin file, choose Upload firmware and confirm. Maintain stable power and the network connection; leave the page open.
  4. Wait for the successful verification message and automatic reboot. A completed transfer alone does not confirm installation.
  5. Reconnect, check Firmware and Build, and check settings and readings before use.

If upload fails, times out or loses connection, reconnect and check the installed version before retrying. If the dashboard remains available, retry with the correct file and a stable connection. If the unit no longer starts, contact support; the resets below do not reinstall damaged firmware. No USB flashing tool is provided.

Restart & reset

For a normal restart, choose System then Reboot qludd and confirm. This does not intentionally erase saved settings. Use the BOOT procedure only if the button is accessible without opening the enclosure, or if Bitella has supplied an approved access and resealing procedure. Otherwise contact support. With the unit running, hold BOOT and release in the required interval below. The action runs on release; follow both the LED colour and elapsed time.

A full erase cannot be undone. Record fuel information beforehand and repeat setup and pairing afterwards. The dashboard Factory reset is a separate configuration-reset function; do not use it as a substitute for the BOOT full erase. If access alone is lost, use the Wi-Fi or security reset rather than a full erase.

Troubleshooting

No dashboard: check that your phone or computer is on the correct local network.

Missing data: check source power, connections and model compatibility.

No startup or repeated restarts: disconnect power and check the supply, cable and protection. Backbone voltage must be within 9–16 V DC. Restore a correct supply before reconnecting. Do not bypass protection or repeatedly replace a fuse without finding the cause.

Care & disposal

Disconnect safely if the unit is damaged, admits moisture, becomes unusually hot, smells abnormal or disrupts other equipment. Clean with a soft dry cloth after disconnection. Inspect mounting, covers and cables periodically. Use an appropriate electrical-equipment collection service at end of life; do not discard with household waste.
